Fields at the Edge. Abstraction as Contemporary Inquiry OPENING JUNE 19, 2026 5-9 PM
Demby’s exhibition, Fields at the Edge, showcases her continued exploration into nuanced minimalist oil painting and sculpture in wood steel and glass. Expressive marks are often subordinated to fields of color that wander to the edge, and compositions that utilize open space as fertile ground for imagination. Upon close inspection the surface activates with subdued gesture, textures and many transparent layers of color. Large and medium scale compositions may hang freely in space wandering to the peripheral leaving open space in the center asking the viewer to question the paradigm of frontality embedded in our over stimulating algorithmic culture. Can a picture be something other than an echo chamber? In the quiet threshold of stillness the viewer is invited to reflect.
